Distance
Makkah and Madinah are about 450 km apart by road.
Comparing options
| Mode | Approx. duration | Pros | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haramain High Speed Railway | 2h – 2h20 | Fastest and most comfortable | Stations are away from the mosques; allow time to reach them |
| Coaches (SAPTCO and others) | 5 – 6 hours | Economical | Fixed schedules; delays in peak season |
| Private car / GMC / van | 4 – 5 hours | Door-to-door, ideal for families | Most expensive; can include stops at the miqat or Badr |
Tips
- Ihram: travelling from Madinah to Makkah for Umrah, enter Ihram at Dhul-Hulayfah (Abyar Ali). The train does not stop there, so change at the hotel and make the intention when passing the miqat.
- Book trains early in peak seasons (Ramadan and holidays).
- Send heavy luggage with your transport company if possible.
